greenwood mall shooting suspect - update

At least three people were murdered and two others were hurt in a shooting that took place at a mall near Indianapolis on Sunday night, according to police.

In Greenwood, Indiana, about 14 miles south of Indianapolis, many people called 911 at around 6:05 p.m. local time to report an active shooter at the Greenwood Park Mall. According to Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison, an unidentified shooter entered the mall's food court and started shooting.

They initially believed the nearby carousel was breaking down when they heard four gunshots, according to Olivia Harding, who was at the mall's Old Navy with her mother. They then heard six more shots, though.

In an interview with ABC News on Sunday night, Harding recounted, "I advised my mum straightaway to get down."

According to Ison, the gunman was killed by a person who was legitimately armed and was later identified as a 22-year-old guy from Bartholomew County.

Ison told reporters at a news conference on Sunday night that the person who was lawfully carrying a gun in the food court and managed to stop the gunman nearly right away was the actual hero of the day.

Mark Myers, the mayor of Greenwood, also stated that the suspect was "shot by an armed person," whom he referred to as a "good Samaritan."
